Johan Thurfjell, I Am You, When I Am Me
The Swedish Artist’s Association (SKF) proudly presents I Am You, When I Am Me, an exhibition by Johan Thurfjell.
Thurfjell works with, among other things, sculpture and installations. Many of his works have a narrative structure, in which various stories often merge in an innovative way and create complex combinations that ultimately form a whole.
I Am You, When I Am Me consists of a series of new works that create a condensed weave of re-written impressions, of figures beyond time and space.
Johan Thurfjell on the exhibition:
This is my reflection on aging and memory. On the body as a vessel and humankind’s capacity to believe. I reflect on the absolute now, on figures captured in a place where the past has been erased, and the future has fallen into obscurity. I intuitively seek the motifs in the materials and drop them as breadcrumbs when the hand and thought take a break. A path emerges behind me.
Johan Thurfjell has exhibited both in Sweden and abroad since graduating from the Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in 2002. Besides exhibiting multiple times at Galerie Nordenhake, he has also had solo shows at, among other venues, Uppsala Art Museum, Kalmar Art Museum, Uppsala Cathedral and Eskilstuna Art Museum. Furthermore, he has participated in group exhibitions such as the Fellbach Sculpture Triennial 2019, Borås Sculpture Biennale 2018, The Moderna Exhibition 2006 and the Momentum Nordic Biennial 2004.
Thurfjell currently teaches sculpture at the Idun Lovén School of Art.
