Opening Thursday, 31 August 17.30 – 20.00 hrs.
Inauguration 18:00 hrs by Björn Larsson, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, specialising in Photography at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm. Dan Utterström will be present.
Dan Utterström’s painting, public commissions and video installations often touch upon spatiality and existential issues. The exhibition at Konstnärshuset is the artist’s first site-specific solo presentation in Stockholm and consists of a suite of newly produced photographs.
At the Neonatal Unit at the Sachsska Children’s Hospital at Södersjukhuset in Stockholm, one can find one of Utterström’s artistic commissions: Så nära ett under man kan komma (As Close to a Miracle as One can Get). Here the artist reflects on presence, memory, and the gaze:
…Nearly, somewhere between existence and non-existence, in a state beyond words. As close as we can get to the unfathomable, that which we bear within us until our final breath…
In this exhibition, DU captures frozen moments of memory, light, and darkness beyond the scope of the verbal, and allows the viewer to discern the contours of a hidden world of meaning in ordinary objects… in everyday life.
Dan Utterström has, among other places, exhibited at Galleri Andersson/Sandström, Norrtälje Konsthall, Susanne Pettersson Gallery, Overgaden, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen.
